After an Irishman's wedding ring slipped off in a mountain stream, Italians he had never met spent days in the rapids, then went to Ireland to return it.
Practice puzzle. It does not touch your streak or today's stats.
Kept 'Ireland' or 'went'? The best wrong words here: 'Irishman's' already says where it went home to, and 'return' says why they went. Kept 'rapids' or 'stream'? Where it happened. This one really happened. This summer Patrick Mohr, from Ireland, was catching his children as they jumped off a boulder in a mountain stream in Italy when one of them grabbed his hand and his gold wedding ring slipped off into the fast water. His wife asked the only other people there, three Italian men, for help and swapped numbers. Filippo Palagi, Nicola Malloggi and Edoardo Poggi searched from a kayak for two days, then roped themselves to boulders and dived in the rapids, and Malloggi saw a glint on the riverbed. Nine days after he lost it, Patrick got a photo of the ring: 'Hi Sméagol, look what we found.' Then the three travelled to Ireland dressed as Frodo, Merry and Sam, with Lord of the Rings music playing, and handed it back at his home. CBC, 17 October.
